I’m a doctoral researcher at the University of York currently writing up my PhD thesis.
Before starting my PhD I was an EFL teacher and thoroughly enjoyed learning about my students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds. During this time, I also found that my students enjoyed sharing this information with me and it often helped them to make links with the class content. It was this which led me to begin a PhD looking at how the linguistic and cultural resources in a classroom (i.e. the students!) can be used to enrich the classroom environment.
During my PhD, I delivered training sessions on how to represent this linguistic and cultural diversity in primary schools, particularly in highly monolingual classrooms. If you or your school would like more information on these training sessions or you have any questions you’d like to ask me, please do get in touch using the form below.
